Chuck Schumer's 15 Minutes of Fame...Again

Democrat Chuck Schumer is known for latching onto " hot " issues and capitalizing on them to advance his party's political agenda. That is why it should come as no surprise that he is trying to pull the wool over America's eyes by making a big issue of the Bush administration's firing of 8 federal prosecutors. These are essentially " at will " employees who serve at the President's pleasure. Now that Schumer is accusing the administration of firing selected prosecutors based on the percentage of ( corruption and other ) cases they pursued against members of one party, journalists like Paul Krugman who want to advance this view are even attacking New Jersey's US Attorney Chris Christie, who has presided over the fight against political corruption there. Those journalists have failed to mention that the percentage of corruption cases prosecuted against Democrats versus Republicans in NJ is proportional to the number of Democrats versus Republicans in office in NJ. Thank you Peter Applebom for coming to Christie's defense in last Sunday's New York Times. We say to President Bush, Attorney General Gonzalez, and especially Chris Christie stick to your guns, gentlemen ! It is unfortunate that we can not fire our congressmen at will by voting every time they do ! I dare say Chuck Schumer wouldn't last long in the job !

The War We Should Be Fighting.

We ( the " WOC Generals " ) are not here to discuss Iraq. That topic has been thoroughly covered elsewhere. What we want to do is draw attention to a war on corruption that WE, THE PEOPLE, must wage right here at home, especially where it is needed most, New Jersey. ( Ohio may be next, but even CNN acknowledged during the recent elections that New Jersey is the most corrupt state in our union. ) They did fail to point out the irony, though, that the clips they kept showing of now Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi had New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez walking right behind her, and right in the middle of all of her talk of ethics and subpoenas. I doubt you'll see any real ethics reform from Pelosi and company anytime soon. ( If you don't know, Menendez was appointed by current NJ Governor Jon Corzine to the senate seat left open by his departure to run for Governor. Menendez was then re-elected in this past election season, in one of the first races to be called by the networks with almost no precincts reporting. ) What we should be asking all of the 2008 presidential candidates is, " What will you do about political corruption, bullying, and abuse of power here in the U.S. ? " I am talking about the kind of corruption evident in the political machine run by Democratic party boss George Norcross, and practiced in NJ at every level from local police in places like Burlington, to prosecutors like Lou Gallagher, judges like John Harrington, former State Attorney Generals like Peter Harvey, and of course Governor Corzine himself. President Bush got the war on corruption started by appointing Christopher J. Christie as U.S. Attorney for New Jersey. This was definitely a step in the right direction, as Christie's office has now delivered 100 convictions in connection with public corruption. ( More are expected from the latest wave of subpeonas and the investigation into " Christmas tree " budget items. ) What we, the people, need to do is keep our government focused on bringing down all of the participants in this corruption. We need to let the presidential candidates know that it is important to us that as president, they will provide Christopher Christie and others like him across the nation all of the support that they need to wage this war right.
